About

Biography

“Orthopaedic injuries can upend your life by removing the freedom of movement and access to recreation that is such an integral part of being human. Restoring movement, reducing pain and returning people to the activities they love is what motivates me. I strive to be the best version of myself every day so I can give my patients the care, attention and outcomes they deserve.”

Dr. Nicholas Trasolini is board certified in orthopaedic surgery. He specializes in surgical and non-surgical sports medicine, adolescent sports medicine and arthroscopic surgeries of the shoulders and knees, with additional areas of interest around the ankle, elbow and hip. His advanced training is in tendon repairs, ligament reconstructions, shoulder and knee instability and reconstructions, cartilage restoration surgeries and meniscus tear treatments. He has additional expertise in throwing injuries, shoulder replacements and the management of shoulder dislocations and fractures. He provides image-guided injections and endoscopic treatment options for hamstring injuries.

As a bioengineer by education and an athlete by recreation, he always sought to work at the intersection of science, health and human performance. These goals led him to choose a career in orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Trasolini is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the associate program director for the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship. He has been recognized as an Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Member of the Year.

His research interests include surgical outcomes in sports medicine, ACL tears, meniscus repairs, proximal humerus fractures, the STABILITY 2 TRIAL for ACL graft decisions, the OASIS TRIAL for shoulder instability, the STaR TRIAL for multiligamentous knee injuries, shoulder replacement outcome optimization, patellar instability and more.

Dr. Trasolini received his bachelor’s degree in engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree at Stony Brook University. He completed residency at the University of Southern California, followed by a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at Rush University.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Olivia, and 3 children. He is an avid audiobook fan, with a particular interest in science fiction, historical fiction and fictionalized true stories.
