Osteoarthritis Insights, Healthy Shepherd’s Pie, and a VIP Museum Tour
March 2025
This online Series is sponsored by Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Sticht Center for Healthy Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention and is presented from 5:30-6:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month via Zoom.
Join Dr. Stephen Messier from Wake Forest University for an informative talk on osteoarthritis (OA), a common condition that affects the joints and causes pain. Dr. Messier will explain what OA is, what are the risk factors for it, and how it impacts daily life. He’ll also share the latest research on how exercise and diet can help manage the pain and improve function for people with OA. This presentation will provide valuable information for anyone looking to better understand the condition and learn about ways to reduce its effects.
Since March is when everyone becomes just a little bit Irish, there is no better time to feature a very traditional Irish dish! And back by popular demand is a favorite AgingWell home chef, Don McClain, MD, PhD, professor emeritus at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, who will be showing us how to create a Shepherd’s Pie- but with a healthy twist! Instead of the usual potato topping, Don will show us how easy and delicious it is to partially enhance or totally substitute cauliflower for the higher carb potato topping. This is a delicious and savory meal that is perfect for a blustery night!
Did you know that there is an amazing museum in Winston Salem that is brimming with a host of fascinating artifacts from around the world and some from here in North Carolina? This wonderful place is the Timothy S.Y. Lam Museum of Anthropology, located on the campus of Wake Forest University! Join us as we are given a VIP tour of some of the many exhibits, by Sara Cromwell, Assistant Director of the Museum. From a stunning collection of clothing from East Asia to a spectacular ceramic roof tile to beautiful wooden carvings from the Pacific Northwest, there is truly something for everyone at the Lam Museum!
