If you live in the greater Winston-Salem area, chances are you are already familiar with the very popular Bobby Boy Bakeshop located on Reynolda Road. But what you may not know is that owners John and Lucia Bobby have expanded their dining options to the historic Salem Bottleworks in the revitalized 1929 Coca-Cola plant located at 845 S. Poplar Street. While the new location has a second, larger Bobby Boy Bakeshop, that features pastries, coffee and a chocolatier section with plenty of seating, the Bobby’s have also opened two new innovative restaurants at the Bottleworks location! First is Grandpa Joe's Slaberia, known for its focaccia-style pizza slabs, salads, and soft-serve ice cream. They are open for lunch and dinner, offering a casual atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. Your other new dining option is Noodle Ju’b, a ramen counter that serves house-made noodles, broth, dumplings, and steamed buns. They are now open Tuesday–Saturday (11 AM–8/9 PM). Attendees of April’s AgingWell will meet Lucia Bobby as she shows us how us how to create her mixed berry tart with vanilla bean pastry cream.
It is always exciting to discover a locally owned business which is why I was eager to share this wonderful bookstore and community gathering place called The Bookhouse, located in Reynolda Village with my AgingWell friends! This warm and welcoming bookstore features an extensive selection of books along with coffee, tea, wine, beer and assorted snacks! In addition to their vast collection of books, they also host regular events such as live music, open mic nights, and children’s story time. Tara Cool, who owns and operates The Bookhouse along with her sister Meghan Brown share that opening this business together has been a shared life-long dream. Besides creating a bookstore for other avid readers such as herself, she adds that their goal was to create a special space that could bring the community together, relax, enjoy their favorite beverage and discuss their favorite reads!
