The Wake Forest Hemophilia Treatment Center provides comprehensive health services to children and adults with bleeding disorders and has since 1976. Our philosophy is to provide multidimensional health care services to patients with bleeding and clotting disorders and to support families and caregivers in meeting those needs.
Our mission at the Hemophilia Treatment Center and at Wake Forest Baptist Health is to improve the health of our region, state and nation. In doing so, we promise to:
- Keep you safe
- Care for you
- Respect you and your time
- Involve you and your family
As part of a national network of approximately 140 hemophilia treatment centers, we can access unique opportunities such as nationally supported surveillance programs and innovative research. From nationally coordinated efforts, we learn how to best expand our access to care for patients and how to improve our health care delivery model. Our program collaborates not only with colleagues who provide similar care in different regions of the country but also with our most valuable resource—you.
Comprehensive Care
Your team will work to provide coordinated services to you and to support your family caregivers in all aspects, including physical, emotional, psychological, educational/vocational and financial issues. Team members can include:
- Hematologists
- Nurses
- Social workers
- Physical therapists
- Genetic counselors
The team works collaboratively with providers in other health care areas, such as orthopaedics, infectious disease, dentistry, surgery and primary care, emphasizing prevention services to help reduce or eliminate complications. To ensure the best possible outcomes at all life stages, they also can educate schools, health insurers and employers about what it is like to live with a bleeding disorder.
Pharmacy Services
The Wake Forest Hemophilia Treatment Center partners with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to use the UNC Hemophilia Treatment Center Pharmacy, which operates a Public Health Service 340B Pharmacy Program for eligible patients. The pricing structure and discounts offered by the 340B program enable us to provide clotting factor to patients at significantly reduced prices.
