The Roena B. Kulynych - Memory Assessment Clinic is designed to be a “one-stop shop” for all issues that patients experience related to aging.
The Geriatric Medicine team provides consultation for a wide variety of aging issues including memory loss, depression, weight loss and medication issues – just to name a few. The vast majority of patients who seek our care have problems with either their memory loss or their function. Our team works with the patient, their caregivers, and the primary care physician to make the most appropriate diagnoses and to provide recommendations to maximize function and minimize safety issues.
We work very closely with our memory counseling team to provide holistic care to both patients and their families.
Who We Serve
The Kulynych Center Memory Assessment Clinic provides comprehensive care for all issues related to aging. In addition, the clinic provides assessments to older adults who are concerned about their memory or who may already have a diagnosis of a memory problem and are seeking a second opinion.
What We Do
We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of memory related conditions such as mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, vascular dementia and frontotemporal dementia among others.
The initial evaluation takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes and includes:
- A comprehensive history (interview) of both the patient and someone who knows the patient well
- A complete physical examination
- Review of any previous records, labs, and scans
- A thorough review of all medications (including over the counter medications)
- cognitive testing
- If necessary, blood work and a brain scan will be ordered
After all the information is gathered and reviewed, the doctor will provide a diagnosis and treatment plan to the patient and family. The treatment plan may include medications, recommendations about lifestyle interventions and a discussion about safety issues and advanced directives. Generally, patients return to the clinic every 6-12 months for ongoing monitoring and adaptation of recommendations. Results of the assessment will be shared with the referring physician.
If you are concerned about issues associated with aging; or changes in your memory or in the memory of someone you care for, we can help determine if those changes are just part of normal aging or something more serious.
