The preoperative assessment clinic (PAC) provides evaluation, preparation and education for surgery patients.
Once your surgery is scheduled, our nurse navigator will call you to discuss your individual plan of care. That plan may include a PAC visit before surgery. Learn what else you should expect before, during and after your surgery.
During a PAC visit, you will undergo a thorough medical evaluation by one of our health care providers to ensure readiness for surgery. At this time, you will receive a focused history and physical examination to determine if additional tests or medical therapy is necessary prior to your anticipated surgical date. You will be advised on which medicines you should or should not take on the day of surgery. As part of the consultation, options for anesthesia will be explained.
Depending on the procedure, the following options may be offered:
- General anesthesia
- Regional anesthesia
- Local anesthesia with sedation
It is important to remember that an anesthesiologist will meet with you on the day of surgery to finalize your anesthetic management.
