Virtual primary care is health care made easy. Once you pick a virtual family medicine online doctor and schedule your first appointment, here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Before your visit

Because all visits are online via secure video connection, you don’t have to go to the doctor’s office or sit in a waiting room. Instead, just log in to MyAtriumHealth by smartphone, tablet or computer a few minutes before your visit.

For the best experience, make sure you have a strong internet connection and your device’s camera, microphone and speakers are working. You also might need your health insurance card and a form of photo ID. For added privacy, consider using headphones.

Step 2: During your visit

Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, seeking care for something new or just trying to stay healthy, each visit is customized for your unique needs. Depending on the reason for your visit, your provider may ask how you're feeling, explain recent labs and testing, and even examine certain physical symptoms.

Step 3: After your visit

At the end of your visit, your provider will go over next steps for your care. They’ll also fill existing or new prescriptions and begin coordinating any follow-up visits if needed.

Virtual primary care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This means you can get same-day appointments – even in the middle of the night – for any health need.

Who will I see during my visit?

All visits are with your online doctor or another virtual primary care provider, so you’ll always see a familiar face.

Does health insurance cover virtual primary care?

Currently, the costs, fees and health insurance coverage of virtual primary care are the same as for traditional primary care. Check with your health insurance provider for specific details on what your plan covers.

Do I need any special tools to use virtual primary care?

All you need is a strong internet connection and smartphone, tablet or computer with a microphone and camera. You might also need your health insurance card and a form of photo ID.

You'll also need a MyAtriumHealth account. This is our free and secure patient portal, where you’ll have video visits, communicate with your online doctor and request prescription refills.

Can I have virtual primary care appointments anywhere?

Yes, as long as you are in North Carolina or South Carolina at the time of your visit. This includes from the comfort of home, work or even while traveling.

Are all visits secure?

Yes. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist uses a patented system to make sure every video visit is HIPAA compliant, secure and confidential.
