Ultrasound is a very safe exam as images are produced by sound waves rather than using radiation or strong magnetic forces like CT or MRI. Most people associate the ultrasound procedure with examining a baby, but there are many more applications of this technology. It can be used to evaluate the body’s internal organs, assess heart conditions, guide biopsy procedures and be used to diagnoses causes for pain and swelling.
