Biography

Meredith Adams, MD, MS, FASA, FAMIA is Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Biomedical Informatics, Physiology & Pharmacology and Public Health Sciences. She completed her residency and chief residency in anesthesiology as well as fellowship training in pain medicine at Johns Hopkins. Her work blends clinical and technical expertise to establish a NIH PI portfolio of more than 26 million dollars. Her independently funded research includes economic analysis, development of machine learning and artificial intelligence tools, data infrastructure support, data visualization and health equity. She is currently funded by the NIH HEAL as the PI of three network research centers focused on data for chronic pain and opioid use disorder including the MIRHIQL Resource Center (U24), the WF DISC (U24) as part of the NIH HEAL Data2Action program and the IDEA-CC center (R24) for the IMPOWR network. She is also funded as an MPI by the NIH National Institute of Drug Abuse (U01) studying the economic impact of COVID on opioid use disorder. She has administrative supplements focused on OMOP conversion of HEAL CDE and machine learning/artificial intelligence in clinical trial data. Dr. Adams was recently awarded the NIH HEAL Director's Trailblazer award and serves as the co-chair of the HEAL Data Ecosystem scientist steering committee and member of the Board of Trustees of the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS). She has previously served and mentored as the AAPM Fellowship Excellence Award winning Pain Medicine Fellowship Adult and Pediatric Pain Program Director. Additionally, she currently speaks and publishes on expanding the academic research pipeline and DEI. Her faculty development experiences have included AAMC Early Career, NCFDD, Harvard Women's Professional Development Program, NIH NIBIB Mentored Clinician Scientist (K08) grant and a FAER Mentored Research in Education grant.
