Biography
As a Chilean immigrant, I have had first-hand experiences with immigration stress, acculturation, grief, trauma, and the unique struggles that immigrants face when they make the heart-wrenching decision of leaving their home country to come to the USA for a better life for their families. Unequivocally, I have made a heartfelt commitment to serve this population through clinical work, research, and teaching. My research focus is on suicide prevention, acculturative stress, culturally-valued interventions in Hispanic/Latinx mental health. My clinical focus is with Hispanic/Latinx adults and families in issues of depression, anxiety, immigration-related stressors, identity development, and suicide behaviors.
I serve on the board for the American Foundation and Suicide Prevention and the National Behavioral Association of Behavioral Health.
