Biography

“My health care career started in orthopedics as a nurse assistant. I have always loved this special niche of osteoporosis and bone health. I enjoy the opportunity to educate my patients about their bone health and risk for fractures. I believe our Musculoskeletal Institute Fracture Prevention Program improves patient outcomes and improves their quality of life. But most of all, I cherish the relationships I get to build with my patients, their families and my co-workers.”

Betsy Southern is a board-certified physician assistant with an additional certification in clinical densitometry (a procedure to measure bone health). Her clinical interests are in bone health and osteoporosis.

Southern received her master’s degree in physician assistant studies at Wake Forest University.

She is married and has 2 sons and 2 bonus daughters. She loves watching her children play sports, and her family enjoys camping, gardening and being outdoors.
