Biography

“I chose to practice rheumatology because I saw from an early age how rheumatoid arthritis affects every aspect of a person's life. Thankfully, new therapies completely changed the disease from one that would inevitably lead to severe disability to one that could be managed so people can lead full, active, happy lives. I want to make sure everyone has access to these life-changing medications so they can live life the way they want to.”

Elizabeth Soto is a board-certified physician assistant. She specializes in rheumatology.

Soto focuses on myositis (inflammation of the muscles) and inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid and psoriatic and spondyloarthropathy (inflammation of the spine). Additionally, she treats connective tissue diseases, such as lupus, Sjogren's syndrome (an immune system disorder causing severe dry eyes and mouth), scleroderma (hardening and tightening of the skin), polymyalgia rheumatica (pain or stiffness in the neck, shoulder, upper arms and hips), vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels) and gout.

She has been a speaker at the annual conference of the American Association of Medical Assistants.

It fills her life with joy and meaning to get to know her patients well. She also likes the intellectual challenge of treating rheumatologic diseases and the promise of seeing better treatment options every year.

Soto received her bachelor’s degree at Furman University and her master’s degree at Wake Forest University.

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her husband, son and foster children. She likes to travel internationally and enjoys trying food from other cultures. Some of her favorite activities include tending to her vegetable garden and spending time with her church community.
