Colon and rectal surgeons at Wake Forest Baptist treat the full spectrum of diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. These include:
  • Colon, rectal and anal cancer
  • Hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes (FAP and Lynch syndrome)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease)
  • Diverticular disease
  • Benign diseases of the anorectum (hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulae, pilonidal cyst)

Faculty are fellowship-trained specialists who can provide the latest effective treatment methods. These include minimally invasive procedures (laparoscopy and robotic surgery), transanal microscopic endosurgery (TEM), sphincter preserving cancer surgery as well as traditional open surgery. Our surgeons are board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Multidisciplinary Approach to Cancer Care

Wake Forest Baptist focuses on using a multidisciplinary, multi-expert approach to obtain comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of colon, rectal and anal disorders. To ensure this, the colon and rectal surgeons work closely with gastroenterologists, radiologists, oncologists, wound ostomy care nurses and nutrition specialists.

Because of this multidisciplinary approach, the Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center has been designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only 41 in the country.

Compassionate and Patient-Focused Treatment

Most importantly, we treat every patient with warmth and compassion. We become a part of your extended family as you and your loved ones navigate your diagnosis and treatment process. Together, we work towards a successful outcome and a hopeful outlook.
