At Wake Forest Baptist Health, our infectious diseases specialists are committed to excellence in clinical care, research and education.
There are many types of germs (viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi) that cause many infectious diseases such as influenza, Lyme disease, hantavirus, the plague or HIV/AIDS. These germs can spread easily from one person to another, with wide-reaching and serious health consequences.
Our infectious diseases specialists are recognized locally, nationally and internationally for their expertise in treating all types of infectious diseases. We see patients at our specialty clinic, one of the largest infectious diseases clinics in the state. The clinic includes the Ryan White HIV clinic, a service for adult patients who are HIV positive.
Infectious diseases experts see patients who are traveling abroad at the international travel clinic. Here patients can receive health information, medications and vaccinations to ensure safe and healthy travel overseas.
In addition to caring for patients, our infectious diseases specialists direct hospital-based programs to prevent and control antimicrobial resistance and hospital-acquired infections in our Medical Center and beyond.
