The BRIDGE program provides multi-disciplinary care for patients with short bowel syndrome.
Short bowel syndrome is a disorder resulting from the loss of small bowel due to a variety of causes. This includes diseases such as:
- Necrotizing enterocolitis
- Intestinal atresias
- Gastroschisis
- Intestinal malrotation
- Hirschsprung’s disease
Trauma also can result in an insufficient length of small intestine to support adequate nutrition and growth.
Additional causes of intestinal failure include disorders of motility and absorption in which a normal length of intestine is present but it can’t function well enough to support the body’s nutritional needs.
Our Team
