As someone who has spent her career in healthcare helping others, Missy Spease never expected to become a patient. She credits her co-workers with insisting she have her persistent cough evaluated. It turned out to be lung cancer.
Early detection is essential to ensure the best opportunity for a successful outcome. Missy underwent a CT lung screening followed by surgery to remove a portion of her lung. A biopsy showed it had not spread to her lymph nodes so she didn’t require chemotherapy.
“I had been a smoker for 30 years and after hearing that I had cancer, I quit immediately. I’m now cancer free and training for a marathon later this year.”
