Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is now offering the latest advanced sleep medicine technology - Inspire therapy, a breakthrough obstructive sleep apnea treatment option for those who cannot use CPAP therapy.
Inspire uses an implanted device that works inside your body with your natural breathing process. Mild stimulation opens the airway during sleep, allowing oxygen to flow naturally. A small handheld remote is used to turn Inspire on before bed and off when you wake up.
Inspire’s safety and efficacy were evaluated during the five-year STAR clinical trial. Patients experienced significant reductions in sleep apnea events and significant improvements in quality-of-life measures.
Inspire therapy is for people who meet the following requirements:
- Have been diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea
- Cannot use or get consistent benefit from CPAP
- Not significantly obese
- 18 years of age or older
