Biography

I am a Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and serve as Director of the Plastic Surgery Research Laboratory. I have adjunct appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Wake Forest Institute of Regenerative Medicine.

After graduating from Duke University and the University of Michigan Medical School, I completed my plastic surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh - including a 3-year fellowship in regenerative medicine research and entrepreneurialism.

Scientifically, I am internationally recognized for contributions, innovations and expertise in the science, development and translation of novel approaches to tissue repair, replacement and regeneration using adipose(fat)-derived cells and factors. I speak internationally on these topics and publish research in a variety of journals and books.

My clinical practice spans a variety of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, with a particular interest in breast reconstruction and body contour surgery. I am certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. After nearly 20 years of professional practice I continue to derive meaning and gratification from the relationships I develop with patients. I sincerely value the trust they put in me and I consider it an unrivaled privilege to take part in their care. Beyond this, I am energized by training, educating and mentoring the future leaders of our field.
