“Fellows receive the “executive level” exposure that you don’t receive in graduate school, and likely don’t receive right out of school without a Fellowship. A Fellowship is particularly valuable if you do not have any previous exposure to the operations of a large academic medical center. It’s also valuable if you aren’t quite sure about the area in which you’d like to focus. The rotation component of the Fellowship will provide an overview of the entire medical center operations. You only have one opportunity to complete a Fellowship and that time is now. A “real job” opportunity will still be there after your one year Fellowship.”

The Fellowship at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is one year and traditionally begins on the first Monday in June.

The Fellowship has 3 simultaneous parts: Leadership, rotations, and projects. More about the Fellowship structure can be found on our main Health Administrative Fellowship page.

Fellows have structured rotations in all areas of the organization. A typical rotation consists of meeting individually with 2-5 leaders in each discipline to learn more about that leader's roles, responsibilities and background.

The leader may also tour the fellow around their area or incorporate them into some of their meetings. If a fellow enjoys a specific rotation or desires to learn more about it, they have the flexibility to elect to spend more time there and get involved in their projects, if able. We encourage fellows to pursue their interests.

In addition to meetings with the Medical Center's top leaders, the fellows typically rotate in the areas listed in the table below:

Two Fellowships are offered annually.

The fellows have offices right next to each other and interact often. They also frequently attend the same leadership meetings. However, each fellow has a different rotation schedule and work on different projects a majority of the time, allowing them to pursue what interests them most.

Administrative Fellows often continue working at Wake Forest after their Fellowship. It is our goal that the Fellowship provides fellows with a highly valuable year-long experience that can be the foundation of their career.

Yes, as long as the didactic portion of the program is complete prior to beginning the Fellowship. Many former fellows have had this requirement, and the preceptor helps the fellow complete all of their necessary graduation requirements.
