The emergency medicine PGY2 residency program at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center offers a robust and unique learning experience that I was immediately drawn to. The program offers the opportunity to provide bedside patient care at a level I adult and pediatric trauma center learning from highly qualified pharmacists and preceptors. I knew that training at a high-acuity, comprehensive center with well-established pharmacy integration would provide me with unmatched experiences to reach my career goals. Through the interview process it was evident that the preceptors are committed to the growth and success of pharmacy residents.

I chose to come to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for my PGY2 because it offers a wide variety of clinical opportunities, including being a level I trauma center both for adults and pediatrics, along with having many specialized ICU experiences. Having the opportunity to get experience with both adults and pediatrics only expands future opportunity and allows for me to help a wider patient population. During my interview it was clear that the preceptors cared about the growth of the resident and the culture of training not only pharmacy residents, but also medical residents was already established. Lastly, the ability to practice at the top of my license and be at the bedside emulated the practice I hope to establish for myself in the future.

I chose to complete my PGY2 residency in emergency medicine here because of the preceptors and diverse experiences that are included within the program. I was certain after my interview that Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist was where I wanted to train as an Emergency Medicine Pharmacist. I work alongside highly qualified emergency medicine and critical care pharmacy and physician preceptors who support and challenge me to practice at the top of my license. The robust clinical rotations and teaching opportunities provided by the program and bedside responses to adult and pediatric medical emergencies will equip me to practice in any emergency department after graduation.
