Community Connections

Brenner FIT strives to reach children and adults in the community to improve health.

Brenner FIT^® strives to work with families in our community to live healthier lives. We’ve designed programs to connect with community members in person and virtually.

By providing classes at the Brenner FIT Teaching Kitchen, taking our mobile kitchen on the road and offering Brenner FIT Academy: For Families, we are able to teach children and adults how to cook, eat, play and repeat.

Teaching Kitchen

The Brenner FIT Teaching Kitchen, located at the William G. White Jr. YMCA, offers free classes for the whole family to participate.

Families are able to learn quick meals, practice new cooking skills and enjoy family time through instructor-led cooking classes and cooking demonstrations.

Mobile Teaching Kitchen

The Brenner FIT Mobile Teaching Kitchen allows Brenner FIT to take our cooking and nutrition education on the road throughout the community.

Class opportunities will continue to increase as we are able after COVID.

Brenner FIT Academy: For Families

The Brenner FIT Academy: For Families is a less intensive version of the Brenner FIT medical and behavioral treatment program. The 10-week, virtual program is free to families who are concerned about their child’s weight or health (ages 2-18). The program guides families toward lifestyle changes without using restrictive diets or strict exercise plans.

Community Partners

Brenner FIT community outreach is the result of strong community partnerships. Together we seek to empower individuals of all ages to establish habits that improve overall health.

YMCA of Northwest North Carolina

Brenner FIT and the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina have teamed up to promote healthier lifestyles for the families of Northwest North Carolina. In December 2013, our two organizations opened a new educational space and teaching kitchen at the William G. White Family YMCA. Lorena Munoz-Holladay, a class participant, shares her experiences in the Winston-Salem Journal.

American Heart Association

American Heart Association (AHA) and Brenner FIT work together to promote the Cook and Eat part of the cook, eat, play, repeat message. Through chef-led cooking classes, families and individuals enjoy the magic of cooking together and eating together. These hands-on classes are an experience for all five senses!

Cannonball Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K

The Cannonball Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K designated Brenner FIT as a recipient of funds raised in their 2021 race. Mark your calendars for October 22, 2022 because we are proud to be partnering with Junction 311 again for this fun event!

Imprints Cares

Imprints Cares staff received free training through Brenner FIT Academy: For Professionals and works closely with Brenner FIT staff on research related to children and health.
